Clinical psychology is a sub-branch of psychology that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders by putting research methods and findings into practice. Clinical psychology, which differs from traditional psychology in terms of application, is basically divided into three stages: evaluation, treatment and research. In keeping with the nature of clinical psychology, these professionals have experience in behavioral therapy, group therapy, family therapy or psychoanalysis.

Clinical psychologists, who work in cooperation with experts in the psychiatry unit in order to alleviate and eliminate psychological disorders such as addiction, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, which affect a serious part of the society, guide people of all ages in the process of understanding and solving problems.

If the clinical psychology unit of Esencan Hospital is applied, it applies and interprets psychological tests in order to reveal mental characteristics in the first stage, which is called “evaluation”. Intelligence and achievement tests, personality tests or neuropsychological tests can be used in the evaluation. After that, the transition to the “treatment” and “research” stages is made with diagnostic measurement tools and clinical observation. In these two phases, which are intertwined with each other, the specialist psychologist who uses any of the various types of psychotherapy or a combination of them follows the patient; communicates and carries out the diagnosis. At this point, the specialist can use methods such as psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, experiential/humanistic therapy, schema therapy, etc.

Clinical psychology, which is very effective in eliminating or alleviating the symptoms of emotional problems, intense stress, grief and trauma that begin to seriously affect life, may also include psychiatrist support in some cases.
